What to wear on the day of your Portrait Session

Colours

Dark Solid Colours or Mid Tones are recommended for most clients, particularly those who want a more classic and dateless approach to their portraits. Darker tones are usually recommended for Black and White portraits. The solid colours will bring more focus to your faces and eyes.

Pastel Coloured or Lighter Coloured Clothing will give a more relaxed appeal to your portraits. This is suitable for those who wish to have a fun quality to their portraits. This colour palette usually suits young children or those with darker complexions.

Styles

We recommend you choose a style that will look acceptable 20 years down the line, as many people make the mistake of wearing trendy clothing only to regret it when fashions change. Remember, it’s your face and eyes that should draw the attention in your portrait – not your clothes! Try to also avoid wearing loud patterns or stripes.

We want you to be comfortable in your Portrait Session. For that reason, we suggest no shorts or very short skirts. We want the focus to be on the relationship you all share – not your legs! Our studios are fully air-conditioned for your comfort, so by all means come dressed for the weather and bring a change of clothes with you.

For males, we suggest shaving on the day of your portrait to avoid a ‘five o’clock shadow’. For those who wish to wear makeup, we recommend you apply your make-up as you usually would.

Most importantly, dress comfortably - if you feel comfortable, you will look comfortable!

Dressing with Pets

If you are bringing your pet, it’s a good idea for everyone to wear long pants so you can comfortably and modestly sit down with your Fur Baby.

Try to choose fabrics that are not hair attracting (especially if you have a breed that sheds). Wool and tee shirt material is particularly bad in this respect.

If possible, try to wear colours that co-ordinate with each other and complement the colouring of your Fur Baby. For example, if you have a black dog you will want to avoid black clothing as your dog will get lost against your clothing.
